Summer savoury has a flavour akin to a combination of marjoram, sage and thyme. It is sweeter, more delicate and less bitter than its close relative, winter savoury. As its German name bohnenkraut suggests – bohen ‘bean’, kraut ‘herb’ – it is a must in any German bean dish, especially bean soup. In Bulgaria, it is mixed with paprika and salt to replace salt and pepper on the table and is called sharena sol, or ‘colourful salt’.

Use with beans, in sausages and sarmale (cabbage rolls), or as an alternative to sage or marjoram.

Essential spice for many dishes

This is hard to get in Australia but thankfully available at your store. Anything vegetarian, salads, poultry and grilled meats would be much enhanced by it. It’s light and versatile but oh so tasty. Fine for modern or exotic cuisines.

You can enjoy eating Beans!

I enjoyed this yummy recipe made by Friends from so many years ago, called Groovy Green Beans! It had Summer Savoury in the sauce! So happy you have this product!
