Coarsely chop and puree the whole orange in a food processor. Transfer to a bowl and add melted butter, eggs, mixed spice and sugar. Mix well.
Sift the flour into the mixture and beat it well. Pour mixture into a greased 18cm loaf pan.
Bake at 180°C for 40 minutes. To test whether your cake is ready, insert a wooden skewer into the centre – if it comes out clean, the cake is baked. Remove from the oven and transfer to a rack to cool.
To make the icing, combine the orange juice one tablespoon at a time with 1 cup of icing sugar and mix until it is a thick pouring consistency. You may not need all the juice. Pour generously over the cooled cake

Made this on the weekend using the apple cake spice instead and it was delicious. Highly recommend it and the measurements were accurate.

Love this recipe.
Also tried this recipe with substituting orange for Lemon and came out just as good.

To Sally Joy, I have another orange cake recipe and the butter is 200gms, I cook it for 1 hour at 160c in fan forced oven. But I make a round cake not a loaf. I am sure the 185gms of sugar would be correct.

This took much longer than 40 mins to cook, more like 80mins. I wonder if the quantity of butter is right? Should it be 85grams not 185grams. It was still delicious.
