The crunchy, golden biscuits made with spekulaas spice in the Netherlands and neighbouring countries for St Nicholas Day on the 6th of December are traditionally shaped using hand-carved wooden moulds before baking. Saint Nicholas was known for his secret gift giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of his faithful. He is remembered to this day when spekulaas biscuits are baked.

Use 20g of spice for 380g of flour which will make 30–40 biscuits.
Cassia, coriander, clove, ginger, allspice, cardamom, nutmeg.

Perfect for baked fruit

I’ve been using this for baking pears and baking apples in the oven and they taste amazing. The biscuits will get made eventually but I’m loving that this blend can be used for so much more.

Ultimate spice mix

Love this and buy it all the time. Wherever it says add cinnamon add this. Biscuits, pies , crumbles milkshakes every thing tastes better with spekulaas!!!

It's become a daily necessity like salt

Not only do I use this wonderful spice in all my baking now, evoking the smells and tastes of childhood, I also have started to use it in my tea! Just a half teaspoon into the mug with the teabag, milk and sugar and you have an instant spiced and warming drink with a dreamy aroma.

Amazing

I had never baked these Dutch windmill biscuits until I bought this spice and I have since ordered another 3 bottles of this gem of a spice. I followed the recipe on the Gewurzhaus website and now I have a lot of family and work colleagues who are addicted to these biscuits. They taste like Christmas, and who doesn't want to taste Christmas every day? I bake these every second weekend to keep everyone happy.
