1 hour 30-2 minutes
2 tbsp olive oil
2 brown onions, chopped
1 garlic clove, chopped
2 tbsp tomato paste
3 tbsp Gewürzhaus Maria’s Pizza & Pasta Blend
40ml red wine, or water
800g tin of tomatoes, whole & peeled
1 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp salt
Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan on MED heat.
Add onions and stir, cook slowly for approximately 10 minutes or until soft and translucent.
Add garlic and Maria’s Pizza Pasta Blend, sauté until fragrant.
Add tomato paste, sugar and salt. Keep stirring till the aroma develops nicely.
Increase heat to MED – HI, add wine andtinned tomatoes into the saucepan. Fill the tin with about ½ cup of water and add.
Bring to a vigorous boil for a 4-5 minutes and then reduce the heat to LOW and simmer.
Cook for approximately 1-1 ½ hours. While cooking use the back of a wooden spoon to break up tomatoes and stir frequently.
The sauce will thicken and reduce. Taste and adjust seasonings to your taste.
Use a stick blender to slightly puree sauce leaving some of the texture remaining.
Serve mixed through pasta. Top with halved cherry tomatoes, grated Parmesan cheese and some basil. Use in with our Quick and Easy Pizza Dough and in our Easy Sausage Pasta.
If you don’t plan on eating it immediately, allow to cool and store in a container or jar in the refrigerator for up to a week or freeze.
