Spices for French Cooking

This fragrant French-style seasoning blends lavender with aniseed, fennel and coriander for a floral, herbaceous note, rounded out with pepper, chilli, garlic and ginger for gentle warmth.
Consider this the much-improved, very gourmet version of traditional garlic salt. Blended using premium garlic and onion to give a sweet rather than bitter taste, Garlic Salt can be used in everything! This absolutely addictive blend will lift any dish.
Flavour Notes: Garlicky, savoury, lightly sweet, lightly herbaceous
Cuisine: Italian
Heat Level: 0/5
No fresh garlic on hand? No problem! Our Garlic Lovers' Spice can be used as a quick substitute for any recipe calling for garlic. A carbohydrate's best friend, use it with bread, pasta and potatoes. Combine soft butter and Garlic Lovers' Spice for an easy garlic butter, to be spread on a sliced baguette for the perfect garlic bread. For a garlicky mashed potato, add 1 tsp when mashing. This will quickly become a pantry staple, earning its place beside the salt and pepper!
Flavour Notes: Garlicky, savoury, slightly herbaceous
Cuisine: European
Heat Level: 0/5
Lavender, thyme and other aromatic herbs litter the fields in France's Provence, and here are blended into the region's famous herb mixture. Aromatic, floral and sophisticated, our version of Herbes de Provence adds orange peel and raspberry leaf for something different. Use in casseroles, vegetable dishes and in sauces.
Flavour Notes: Herbaceous, floral, bright
Cuisine: French
Heat Level: 0/5
Quatre Épices is a staple of French cuisine. A warming blend of white pepper, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger, it brings depth and richness to classics like pâtés, ragouts and braises. Versatile across savoury and sweet dishes, use it in creamy béchamel and hearty stews, or to enrich pastry doughs, custards and puddings.
This fresh blend of garden herbs adds vibrancy and colour to every salad and dressing. With Salad Herbs, you'll be enjoying the flavours of summer all year round.
Flavour Notes: Herbaceous, balanced savoury and sweet
Cuisine: German
Heat Level: 0/5
Our Vanilla Bean Sugar uses only the fine seeds from Madagascan vanilla, which are hand-stripped out of each pod. Vanilla bean is the dried and cured seed pod of a tropical South American climbing orchid and it takes up to three months to get market ready.
This sugar also pairs well with pork and, of course, with anything containing chocolate. Great for baking and compotes, simply use in place of normal sugar.
Flavour Notes: Sweet, fragrant, floral
Cuisine: Madagascan
Heat Level: 0/5
Although lavender flowers are not widely used in culinary circles, their pleasant aroma and corresponding soft, sweet taste are well worth exploring. Find them in Herbes de Provence and Ras el Hanout blends, but on their own, use in biscuits, cakes and general sweet baking. In northern Africa, lavender flower is also added to meat dishes.
Worn in a garland by Augustus Caesar to protect against lightning, Bay Leaf is more commonly used to flavour soups, stews and slow cooked dishes. Its pungent, sharp and bitter taste is strong, so add only a few whole leaves (even less in ground form) at the beginning of cooking.
Stick your nose into a sack of cloves and you will understand why ancient mariners claimed to smell the approach of the clove islands while still far out to sea. A terrific and much-used pungent addition to Christmas ham and baked goods, stewed and pickled fruit and vegetables, cakes, pastries and biscuits, German Glühwein (also known as mulled wine), and many North African spice blends. Also known as: Nelke, ting-hiang.
