French Lavender Salt

I used the French Lavender salt and some freshly ground multicoloured peppercorns to season some Kent pumpkin before baking it. It was a delightful combination. The French Lavender salt added a slightly floral and peppery quality to the sweetness of the pumpkin and the whole kitchen smelled wonderful!

Putting lavender into your food seems to be a strange concept. You might think it would make everything taste floral or like your Nanna's favourite talcum powder but it so doesn't. It gives a wonderful savoury flavour to food. I love sprinkling this crazy piece of joy on a lot of my dishes, in particular breakfast eggs (poached, scrambled or fried). Tomatoes are also a friend of this salt. Try it and you will be pleasantly surprised.
